José Costa [Zékinha] (b. 1986, Lisbon, Portugal): Stage director, performer, visual artist and noise musician. In 2010, he participated as an actor and musician in courses Theatre Research I, II, Theatre Project I and II, in the Master Course in Staging/Interpretation at ESMAE (Porto). As a visual artist he has been working in installation, set design and soundscape. He has started his career in theatre in 2004 at ACERT (Tondela), and later developed his work as a performer in CITAC (Coimbra), since 2006. He has had training with Rodrigo Malvar, Catarina Lacerda, Gonçalo Amorim and Nuno Pino Custódio, among others. He worked as an actor/performer with José Rui Martins, Gil Rodrigues, Wojtek Ziemilsky, Pedro Penim, Carlos Curto, Andrés Bezares and Patrick Murys. It was co-director, performer and designer in the plays Sim Não Talvez (2009), A Stranger in a Strange Land (2010), ODEM I and ODEM II (2010). As a musician he created the soundtrack for the shows Gato Malhado e a Andorinha Sinhá (2005), A Stranger in a Strange Land (2010), ODEM I and ODEM II (2010). He is co-founder and member of DEMO. In 2011 he participated as a performer/director with DEMO in the artistic research project Russian Roulette, at the Centre for Contemporary Art Ujazdowski Castle in Warsaw, Poland. In 2012, he co-staged and performed the DEMO performance Fios de Terra, included in the Guimarães 2012 - European Capital of Culture’s programme Tempos Cruzados. In 2012, he did the course ArtHumanNature, taught by Anita Saij, in the Nordic School of Butoh and participated in the project UWAGA! produced by DEMO also inserted in the Guimarães 2012 - European Capital of Culture’s programme Tempos Cruzados.
